Keeping Your Outdoor Room Cool During The Summer

With the increasing popularity of outdoor rooms and a move toward more health conscious living, many homeowners are spending much of their free time enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. If you've created an outdoor living room, dining room, kitchen, or even a bedroom, you may love spending your hours outdoors as well.

However, when summer rolls around, the glaring heat of the sun may reduce the amount of time you spend lounging on your wicker furniture in the backyard. You may be left wondering what you can do to beat the heat and enjoy more hours in your outdoor retreat. Luckily, there are several steps you can take to cool things down and stay outside longer.

Keeping Your Outdoor Space Cool During The Summer

Don't let the heat run you inside this summer. Enjoy your outdoor space with these cooling essentials.

Misting Systems- Have you ever been to an amusement park? These parks generally have misting systems that send down a sheet of mist to cool guests. You can have the same type of system, although perhaps on a smaller scale, for your backyard retreat. This small amount of water will not harm your wicker furniture, and your friends and family will feel much more comfortable sitting outside on sweltering days. Trees- If your outdoor space extends farther than your deck or patio, consider strategically planting some nice shady trees around your outdoor space. These trees will not only add to the beautiful décor of your retreat, but will provide you with much-needed shade so you can relax outside. Add a Roof- If the majority of your backyard space begins on a deck or patio, there is one easy way to create a comfortable and shady area. Add a roof. With a roof over your patio or deck, you can experience shade no matter what time of day it is, reducing the temperature of your deck or patio by up to 20 degrees. If you don't want to create a permanent roof, consider an adjustable or collapsible one. These still provide the same benefits, but can easily be removed if you decide you do not want to use it. Ceiling Fans-If you have a permanent roof structure in place, you can easily add a ceiling fan to your outdoor space. This will help to create a breeze on those days when the sun is beating down on you. Ceiling fans can also serve a dual purpose, allowing you to create additional outdoor lighting for your backyard space after dark. Pools-While a pool might not cool you down when you want to curl up on a piece of your wicker furniture with a book, it can definitely keep you cool when you want to spend more time outdoors. A pool can also make your outdoor space look more inviting to your friends and family, especially if you add additional décor, such as shrubbery, wicker lounge chairs, and umbrella-covered tables.

Don't let the summer heat cause you to abandon your comfortable wicker furniture and drive you inside to the air conditioning. If you take the right steps, you can create a comfortable and cool area for you and your family to enjoy even on the hottest days of the year.
